Ssangyong Motor recalls over 29,000 cars in S. Korea

SEOUL, Dec. 26 (Yonhap) -- Ssangyong Motor Co., the local unit of Indian sport utility vehicle maker Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd., is recalling some Korando Turismo and Korando Sports vehicle models for a defective transmission lever, the transportation ministry said Thursday.
According to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, the gear stick may shift from the parking position with just a minor force, causing the vehicle to move.
The recall affects 26,151 units of the Korando Sports sport utility vehicle (SUV) produced between Jan. 3, 2012 and May 24, 2013, and 3,662 units of the Korando Turismo SUV produced between Feb. 1, 2013 and May 14, 2013.
Free repair services for those subject to the recall will be provided from Monday at any Korando service center throughout the country.
The ministry said BMW Group Korea, the local importer and distributor of German automaker BMW AG, has also been told to recall 1,584 cars of nine different models, including the BMW 750Li, for defective software that may shift the gear from parking to the neutral position, as well as a defect in a separate software that may cause the door to open while the vehicle is in motion.
Subject to the recall are vehicles produced between February 2004 and July 2008.
Free repair services and more information will be available at BMW service centers.
